ファイは仁穆大妃（インモクテビ）に会うためホ・ギュンと接触する。
そして「観音の目」の数珠が貞明公主のものだと明かし、大妃に会わせてほしいと頼む。
なぜそのことを知っているのかと問われたファイは、公主に仕えていた女官の妹だと嘘をつき、光海君を恨んでいると語る。
ホ・ギュンはその話を信じ、見返りを条件に協力を約束する。
